Head Nurse

Our current HN is stepping up as a practice manager and we are searching for a “unicorn” with RCVS registration 🦄

We are seeking a skilled, dynamic, innovative, and enthusiastic Head Veterinary Nurse for a full-time on-site position at our Brownhills location. The Head Veterinary Nurse will be responsible for leading the nursing team, ensuring the efficient and safe operation of the practice, and providing the highest level of patient care. Primary responsibilities will include providing direct patient care, managing inventory and equipment, and maintaining open and effective communication with the veterinary team and clients.

No out-of-hours

Work-life balance is great usual job plan is 42 hours over 4 days with 1:4 Saturday emergency consults (9-1 only) but we have team members on varied hours (reflected in salary).

Qualifications:

Registered Veterinary Nurse qualification.

Proven experience in a similar role.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with veterinary and non-veterinary staff, as well as clients.

Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks effectively and efficiently.

Demonstrated leadership abilities.

Passionate about animal welfare, with a commitment to providing the highest standards of care.

Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations

Receptionist

This is not your average reception role.

You will thrive in a fast-paced environment where multi-tasking and responding to urgent requests calmly and efficiently won’t phase you, and you will relish being part of a large, well-established team.

You will enjoy variety; in addition to greeting clients, call handling, stock rotation, and complex appointment management, you’ll have some dispensing and payment processing duties and take pride in maintaining a clean and tidy reception area.

To be successful, you will have outstanding people skills combined with a friendly telephone manner and the proven ability to handle both sensitive and challenging situations.

Full training in our practice management system will be provided, but it is essential that you are a competent IT user and you can quickly learn new systems.

Salaries are above minimum wage. 


Our ideal candidate: 


A minimum of 2 years’ customer service experience handling face-to-face enquiries – this could be gained in a clinical, retail or hospitality environment.
Ability to follow instructions and strict protocols Impressive communication skills, ability to assess sensitive situations and deal with them professionally
Demonstrable IT skills up to an advanced level
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment whilst maintaining accuracy.

Student Placements

Veterinary Student 

We offer Clinical Extra Mural Studies (CEMS) for students attending UK and Ireland veterinary schools, through two-week placements with our Veterinary team. 

We are very proactive with our veterinary student placements, and allow the student to carry out as much as they can within their level of competence. 

We have a range of facilities which include and in-house laboratory, digital X-Ray, endoscopes, ultrasounds and you can expect to see and assist in a variety of surgical procedures.

Degree placements and Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are reserved for the progression of our exisiting team of Veterinary Care Assistants and are not available for external candidates. If you would like to be considered, please apply when we advertise for the next VCA position. 

VCA Students
